Types of contrast

  Types of Contrast

An example I immediately thought of when it comes to contrast was character design, I chose Spongebob and Patrick as examples for this week. The first thing we notice that separates them is their color, Spongebob is yellow and Patrick is pink, it's one way for the audience to tell the difference between them.

Another is their shape, one is a square and one is a star, and the show "Spongebob Squarepants" has used these character designs to show the difference between the characters which is why that contrast with color and shape is important.

This is an example of contrast through text and I would say fonts as well. This is a photo of a banner that was posted to promote the new 2026 movie release "Obsession." The banner was actually first posted with just the "text me" we see in the middle and the phone number and eventually as days passed leading up to the movie release it filled with more messages that went from small neat handwriting to now a chaotic and large handwriting. This contrast sets the creepy tone to promote this movie.

This last example I use sound as a way of contrast with the Super Mario Bros game, each sound affects means something different when you play the game and its a way for players to differentiate what type of sounds it means whether we get a power up or when we step on an enemy. This video shows the many different sounds from the game.

Types of Balance

My tea party invitations!

Symmetrical, I tried to keep the text centered but the decorative elements on the invite I kept to try to mirror each other.

Asymmetrical; I still tried to keep the balance by having something fill space in the page.

Radial; This is supposed to show the top of a tea cup filled with brewed tea, kept right in the center of attention.
